Elon Musk has proposed that X (previously known as Twitter) should no longer offer its services free of charge. In a live conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Musk stated that the corporation would implement a "minimal monthly fee" for access to the X platform. The precise fee was not disclosed; however, he claimed it would be instrumental in combating bots.

According to Musk, this approach is the most effective means of dealing with large bot networks. While bots are inexpensive to create, imposing a small fee would increase their value and cost. Furthermore, each time a bot developer intends to construct a new bot, he would be required to utilize a different payment method.

Elon also disclosed new statistics for the X platform, highlighting 550 million monthly users producing 100 to 200 million posts each day. It remains uncertain whether these figures include automated accounts such as good bots (e.g. news feeds) or malicious ones (e.g. spammers).

Comparing these new data points with the former social network's figures from Twitter's era is challenging, as previous calculations were based on mDAU (monetizable daily active users who view advertisements on the site). According to the Q1 2022 report, the platform had 229 million daily active users at the time.
