  • The PlayStation 5 Pro introduces significant upgrades like a more powerful graphics processor, enhanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, offering 4K gaming at 60 fps and improved design features, including optional external drives and more USB-C ports.
  • Celebrating a decade-long partnership with Sony, NACON enhances the PS5 Pro experience with officially licensed accessories like the Revolution 5 Pro controller and DAIJA Arcade Stick, emphasizing innovation, performance, and customization for avid gamers.

Last week, the PlayStation 5 Pro went on sale, and many fans have already grabbed one through pre-orders. This updated version isn't the last release of the year, as we still have this month of a special anniversary series dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the iconic gaming console coming up. (In my opinion, collectors have already pre-ordered the entire limited edition.)

What's New at the PlayStation 5 Pro

According to the Japanese manufacturer, the main improvements compared to the previous Slim version from 2023 in the PlayStation 5 Pro include a more powerful graphics processor, which provides 67% more computing units and 28% faster memory, allowing for 45% faster rendering. This enhances the overall performance of the console, enabling gameplay at 4K resolution with stable 60 frames per second. The upgraded ray tracing system allows for more realistic lighting and reflections, while the new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology leverages artificial intelligence to improve frame rates without compromising image quality.

The design of the PS5 Pro has also undergone some changes: the console is slimmer while maintaining the same height and length as the original PS5, featuring new aesthetic elements on the removable panels. Significant changes have been made to the input-output interfaces, including adding more USB-C ports. The drive in the PlayStation 5 Pro is now optional and can be added as an external module for an additional $80. The PS5 Pro also boasts support for Wi-Fi 7, which provides faster game downloads, provided the appropriate network infrastructure is in place. Despite the significant changes, the original controllers remain the same as previous models, and support for officially licensed accessories has also been retained. Many users have expressed their "not WOW" feedback about this smooth upgrade, but I consider it an optimal path for PlayStation.
