Roman Altukhov presenting FixHome+ App

Roman Altukhov, the founder of FixHome+ handyman services, presents the FixHome+ App.

Owning a home is amazing. But you know what’s not? A leaky faucet dripping away at 2 a.m. Or that drawer that's refused to close properly for months. Sound familiar? Fixing all those little (or big) issues can feel like a never-ending chore. We are always striving to improve the quality of people's lives with the help of technology, so we would like to share again how convenient some solutions can be.

We recently sat down with Roman Altukhov, the founder of FixHome+, a handyman service that’s turning the concept of home maintenance on its head. He helped homeowners across the Chicago suburbs. With over a decade of experience in everything from minor repairs to major renovations, Roman has seen firsthand the struggles homeowners face when it comes to caring for their properties. It was those experiences, combined with a passion for solving problems, that led him to create FixHome+, a handyman service offered by subscription.

Here’s what we learned from our conversation.

The Common Struggles of Homeowners

Roman began by telling us about some of the most significant issues homeowners face when maintaining their properties. "A lot of people struggle to stay ahead of small maintenance tasks," he explained. "Even a tiny leak in a pipe, if ignored, can turn into a costly flood. Regular maintenance saves both time and money, but keeping track of everything? That’s where it gets hard."

He also highlighted how most homeowners feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of scheduled tasks their property needs. "Filters, gutters, HVAC servicing, water heaters—it’s a lot. And people often don’t know the right timing for these things. They end up forgetting until something breaks."

Another major point Roman raised was just how difficult it can be to find reliable help. "I hear all kinds of stories from homeowners," he said. "They get stuck making endless calls, waiting weeks for someone to show up, or dealing with unpredictable pricing. Home repairs add enough stress on their own; the process shouldn't make it worse."

Lastly, he mentioned trust as a critical factor. "What people want most is someone they can rely on. They don’t want to call a new handyman every time something breaks. They want to work with someone who understands their home and gets the job done right every time."

The Idea Behind FixHome+

Hearing all these frustrations led Roman to start thinking about a better way forward. And that’s how FixHome+, a handyman service by subscription, came to life. "I wanted to create a solution that makes home care simple and reliable. Something that not only handles repairs but takes the stress out of the whole process."

At the heart of FixHome+ is its app, designed to streamline home maintenance. Roman explained how it works. "With the FixHome+ app, you can manage all your tasks in one place. If you notice something around the house that needs fixing, you can just snap a picture, add a note, and schedule a visit. It keeps everything organized so nothing gets overlooked."

And for those who aren’t tech-savvy or prefer not to use apps, there’s a browser version with identical features. "We wanted to make sure everyone could use the service without any barriers," Roman said.

Handyman Services by Subscription

What makes FixHome+ stand out is its subscription model. Roman explains how it works. "Instead of calling someone out for individual jobs and stressing about costs, you can choose a plan that fits your needs. It’s predictable, straightforward, and removes the guesswork."

FixHome+ offers three subscription plans:

  • Essential Plan ($349/month): Includes two handyman visits per month, each up to two hours. It’s perfect for regular upkeep and tackling to-do lists.
  • Home Harmony Plan ($184/month): Ideal for apartment owners or senior homeowners, offering one visit per month, also up to two hours.
  • Seasonal Shield Plan ($199/quarter): Provides one handyman visit every three months for seasonal maintenance or smaller tasks.

FixHome+ founder claims that there are no hidden fees and no surprises. "Transparency was very important to me. I wanted pricing to be clear and fair so homeowners feel confident about using the service."

From author side, I can say that comparing the average hourly rate of handymen in these areas, it can be argued that the subscription model is quite a cost-effective solution.

Try Before You Commit

To make FixHome+ even more accessible, Roman came up with an idea that’s been a hit with customers. "We offer a free demo visit," he told us. "During this visit, we familiarize ourselves with your home, and we even take care of small repairs on the spot." And no, a subscription isn’t required to book the demo. "We just want people to experience how easy FixHome+ can make their lives."

A Local Service You Can Trust

"It’s not just about providing handyman services," Roman said. "FixHome+ is all about being a trusted partner for homeowners." The company operates in the Northwest Chicago suburbs and North Shore, which Roman knows well. "We’re a local business, and our team understands the unique needs of homes in the area."

He also said that hiring experienced, professional handymen was one of his top priorities. "We ensure every team member is reliable and dedicated to doing high-quality work. That’s how you build trust with homeowners."

Making Homeownership Easier

When asked how FixHome+ is changing the game for homeowners, Roman summed it up succinctly. "We take the stress out of home maintenance. From organizing tasks and scheduling fixes to providing professional, consistent service, FixHome+ makes everything easier."

He added that the service doesn’t just react to problems but helps prevent them. "It’s about staying ahead of issues, so homeowners avoid costly surprises and their homes stay in great shape."
