Gaming Laptop 2023

So you've outgrown the laptop your parents may have bought you a few years ago, which was good enough for everyday tasks. Or mobile phone games aren't enough for you, and you want more fast-paced action on a bigger screen. Or your gaming needs have already moved beyond the game room, and you want your gaming world to go with you. Then it's time to choose the best gaming laptop for you.

A gaming laptop is not just an ordinary computer, but a powerful machine capable of running the most advanced games on high settings. But how do you choose the best gaming laptop in 2025 when there are so many options on the market? We're going to take a look at some of the main parameters you should look for when choosing a gaming laptop in 2025.

CPU

CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the "brain" of your laptop that performs all calculations and operations. For gaming, it's essential to have a processor with a high frequency and number of cores to handle a large amount of data and tasks. Currently, the most powerful processors for laptops are Intel Core i9 and AMD Ryzen 9, which have up to 16 performance cores and up to 32 threads. Another good option is the Intel Core i7 and AMD Ryzen 7, which have up to 8 cores and up to 12 threads. Choose a processor of at least the 10th generation for Intel and at least the 5th generation for AMD.

The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the "brain" of your laptop that performs all calculations and operations. For gaming, it's essential to have a processor with a high frequency and number of cores to handle a large amount of data and tasks. Currently, the most powerful laptop processors are the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and Ryzen AI Max+ 395, which have up to 16 performance cores. Another good option is the Intel Core Ultra 200HX, designed for gamers and enthusiasts with up to 24 cores. These newcomers, presented at this year's CES, are set to top the performance charts of 2025. (And likely, the prices too). For budget-conscious gamers, the AMD Ryzen 7 series from 2023 remains a solid choice, offering up to 8 cores and reliable performance.

Graphic Card

The graphic card is the "heart" of the laptop, providing graphics and images on the screen. For gaming, it's important to have a graphic card with high performance and memory capacity to display detailed and smooth graphics without lag or dropouts. Currently, the most powerful laptop graphics cards are the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series and AMD Radeon RX 9070 series, which offer cutting-edge technologies like DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation, making them ideal for high-resolution gaming. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 and AMD Radeon RX 6800M, with up to 16 GB of memory and support for ray tracing, remain strong contenders. For a more budget-friendly option, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 is a reliable choice for Full HD gaming. So, this is our minimum recommendation for today.

RAM

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the laptop's "memory" that stores temporary information about programs and processes. For gaming, it's important to have enough RAM to run many programs at once and keep your system running fast. The recommended amount of RAM for gaming is 16 GB, but if you want to have a reserve for the future, choose 32 GB. Also pay attention to the type and frequency of memory: DDR4 and not lower than 3600 MHz.

Storage

A storage stores permanent information about files and documents. For gaming, it's important to have a fast and capacious drive to reduce the time it takes to load games and programs. The best option is a solid-state drive (SSD), which is faster and quieter than a traditional hard disk drive (HDD). The recommended storage capacity for gaming starts from 512 GB, but if you want to store a lot of games, choose 1 TB or more. For example, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl needs 160GB of SSD storage. Also pay attention to the type and speed of the drive: NVMe and at least 3000 MB/s.

Display

The display is the "face" of a gaming notebook that shows you everything that is happening on it. For gaming, it is important to have a high-quality and comfortable display to enjoy a beautiful and realistic picture. The recommended display size for gaming is 15-17 inches, but if you want more portability, choose 14 inches. Also pay attention to the resolution and refresh rate of the display: Full HD (1920x1080) and at least 120 Hz.

Battery

The battery is the "source" of the laptop that powers it from the mains. For gaming, it's important to have a powerful and long-lasting battery so you don't have to worry about running out of power at the wrong time. The recommended battery capacity for gaming is 60 Wh or more, but please note that a gaming laptop will not work for long without being connected to the mains, so it is better to have a power outlet nearby.

Bottom Line

These are just options of parameters that, in my opinion, should be in the best gaming laptop in 2025. They are not mandatory, but simply as a marker from which you can start your journey when choosing a laptop for a gamer. The newest CPUs and RAM modules usually cost more than their predecessors, so you need to understand what tasks the laptop will have. There are a large number of laptops with less good characteristics, but which are well suited for gaming. More detail guide How to choose gaming laptop here.
