Conclusion

I've had the chance to try Fifine's products, especially their wired gaming headphones, and my first impressions are a lot positive. Just a few days before my vacation, I received the Fifine AmpliGame AM8 microphone for review. It's designed for gamer-streamers and podcasters. Without delay, I decided to take a closer look at it after unboxing it in the sunny backyard right after receiving it. Afterward, I'll explain why I use them at home or elsewhere.

About Fifine

Founded in 2009, Fifine has already become one of the leading names in the audio equipment industry, offering a range of products aimed at streamers, podcasters, gamers, and content creators. The company, located in China, is known for its high-quality microphones. Fifine's offerings consistently receive positive reviews for their quality and exceptional sound clarity at a low price. In addition to microphones, their extensive product range includes headsets, audio interfaces, and pop filters designed to meet the dynamic needs of digital content creators.

Packaging and Contents

The Fifine AmpliGame AM8 kit is straightforward, with no extra wires or clutter. In a basic, high-quality black and red box with all the essential information listed on the sides. It includes a detailed user manual, a long USB Type-A to Type-C cable 6.5ft or 2m to the microphone, a rubbered microphone stand, and an AM8 mic. This is the desktop version by default, but you can easily upgrade it to a studio version with a separate low-profile boom arm from Fifine. Everything comes together easily—just attach the base to the bottom of the mount, connect the cable, and you're ready to go.

Design and Quality

Overall, the design of the Fifine AM8 is quite versatile. The microphone is rectangular with rounded edges and a bottom RGB light section made of translucent plastic, framing the connection space below. We focused on the black microphone for a reason. When choosing the microphone color for the review, I selected it because the mount is available in black for all three color options (white and pink also). This way, it seems natural with the black version of the device.

The build quality is top for me, despite its price. No issues with backlashes, squeaks, excessive assembly gaps, or unpleasant sounds when shaking the microphone. The microphone is made of ABS plastic and durable metal. The screw bases on the sides have plastic covers, and the pop filter is, of course, not metal but made of fairly dense and high-quality foam. I caught myself a few times resting my hand on the microphone as if it were a small pillow, and the windscreen foam didn't give any tactile indication of that—the metal mesh beneath it was not felt at all.

On the front of the Fifine AM8, there are 2 knobs: the upper one controls the microphone volume, and the lower one adjusts the headphone volume, which can be connected via the 3.5mm jack below for direct headphone monitoring audio during use. Above them is a recessed touch button for adjusting the RGB lighting. Additionally, there are two more ports at the bottom for connecting the USB-C cable and an XLR connector, suitable for use with professional audio equipment.

On the back, there is a single-touch sensor button that controls the mic. Unfortunately, it does not have any indentations like the button for RGB backlight control, and a few times while moving the microphone across the desk or changing its tilt angle, I pressed it and muted the sound. I wasn't too pleased with this, but over time, you can get used to the button's placement or spin the Fifine AM8 while using it to see the button. If you are connected via a USB-C cable, the microphone indicator will always be on – it lights up green when unmuted and red when muted. I should note that if you're connecting via XLR, which I don't have and is not included in the package, all control functionality along with the backlight disappears.

The Fifine AmpliGame AM8 has built-in threads for both 3/8” and 5/8” sizes, to ensure compatibility with a wide range of microphone stands and boom arms. The stand that comes with the set is also black, quite heavy, and features a rubberized base to prevent slipping on the desk.

Ease of Connect

The Fifine AM8 offers easy connectivity through its USB A to USB C cable, simplifying the setup process. Utilizing Plug and Play technology, it enables quick and effortless connectivity across a variety of devices such as PC, laptops, Macs, and PlayStation without requiring additional drivers.

I connect it only with the cable from the kit, without connecting to XLR since I don't have one. However, after reviewing it, I realize that I might need to purchase one in the future and connect via an additional device, for example gaming audio mixer for streaming and podcast. (I'm considering the Fifine brand since I haven't had any disappointments with its quality so far). Note that I used the original cable, and the sound quality might have differed if I had used a different, higher-quality cable.

Positioning

So, we've figured out the connection, now let's address the positioning. The microphone we have is dynamic and is designed to pick up sound only from one side at a distance of no more than 6 inches from it, although I was able to use it from a bit farther away, about 10 inches, without significant degradation in my voice. This is calculated to prevent ambient noise from different sides from entering the microphone, allowing only your voice, clearly directed from one side. Regarding height: my mic is on my desk on its stand at an angle of up to 60º degrees, the height of my desk is about 28 inches, and I experience no discomfort while using it - I don’t lean down to the microphone. If your workspace or gaming desk is low, or you're taller than average, consider adding a book arm for better ergonomics. This option also makes the Fifine AM8 a great microphone for streaming.

Voice Upgrade

I didn't have professional microphones before; I always used the built-in ones in the headsets. After getting this one, I was actually planning to use it only for voice chats during games. The Fifine AmpliGame AM8 is marketed as a gadget for podcasters or streamers, which is what I read in the reviews I checked out earlier. Honestly, I've come across this manufacturer's microphones on top lists more than once; some even compared them to much more expensive microphones. I can't claim that personally because, in the past, the microphone wasn't a top priority for me besides in my work meetings or occasional game voice chats.

But I can say for sure—my voice quality improved from the very first minute of use, and my friends, with whom I was planning vacation activities during the video call while AM8 testing, immediately noticed it. "It feels like I'm listening to you on the radio," I heard without initially revealing my new voice secret. The microphone gives my already low voice a clear, even deeper tone. Overall, the surrounding sound improved as the noise from the open adjacent room was muted by the dynamic microphone systematically, fading into the background. The feedback about the improvement in my voice and overall clarity led me to solute that I would use it during every work meeting so my colleagues could hear the new me as well (this already happened during the publishing preparation, and it was really well received). I also never considered myself a fan of having the microphone on in chats, but now that will change, and my teammates won’t have to listen to my family while I’m gaming.

Voice Monitoring

Let me remind you that in addition to the XLR port, the microphone is equipped with a Jack 3.5 port, which provides a direct connection to headphones for real-time voice monitoring. This is done so that you can adjust the volume of your voice using the headphone dial on the front of the AM8 if you need to. I did not use this function, so out of the box, I got a sound that was rated as satisfactory by those around me, and better than at my AirPods, or wired Fifine H6.

RGB

The RGB lighting is located under the diffusing plastic ring at the bottom of the microphone. It cannot synchronize with anything, but it can switch between several modes, including static colors, a rainbow effect, and gradual fading. There are a total of 10 colors and several multi-color modes. They are quite bright, but fortunately, the lighting can be turned off when needed, and during the next activation, it will start with the color that was set when it was turned off. The lighting is controlled by a single-touch button that features a light icon. The button has two functions: a light touch changes the color while holding it for a few seconds and toggles the lighting on or off.

Pros & Cons

The Fifine AmpliGame AM8 is a great budget microphone, and it has its own pros and cons, in my view:

Pros:

  • Affordable price
  • Easy to set up and use
  • Pop filter and RGB lighting
  • Several mounting options
  • USB-C and XLR cable connecting options

Cons:

  • Accidentally press the voice mute touch button.
  • Assembling fingerprints on the stand and body is simple.

Conclusion

I think the Fifine AM8 microphone is the best all-around choice out there. It offers excellent voice recording quality, easy controls on the device, vibrant gaming lights that can be turned off, and the ability to connect to professional audio mixers via XLR. Its appealing design makes it a great device at an affordable price.

In conclusion, it won't just be a gaming or streaming microphone for me; it will also serve as my work microphone, I suppose my coworkers will enjoy it.
