Intro

Top manufacturers have already unveiled their awesome new goodies, aiming to stay ahead of the competition and generate more talks around their products. We've gathered the most interesting ones just for you. Stay tuned as TheGeekyThings brings you the most thrilling announcements from CES 2024.

Hyperkin Mega 95: Gaming Console with a Five-Inch Screen

According to The Verge - the Mega 95 is a new gaming handheld by Hyperkin designed to play original Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges. It has a five-inch display with a toggle for 4:3 and 16:9 modes and a battery that lasts up to 10 hours per charge. It resembles Hyperkin's MegaRetroN HD Gaming Console, a portable retro console released in 2018. The Mega 95's performance with classic Genesis titles is not detailed in Hyperkin's press release, but it likely uses a hardware emulation approach similar to the MegaRetroN HD. Additionally, there is a USB-C dock available for the Mega 95, allowing it to be connected to a TV and supporting additional controllers. Pricing and release date for the Mega 95 are yet to be announced.

New MSI Claw - Steam Deck Competitor?

Also, The Verge report that MSI unveiled the Claw, a handheld Windows gaming PC inspired by the Steam Deck. Priced at $699, it rivals the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. The Claw boasts an Intel Core Ultra chip, offering superior performance and battery life compared to AMD. At CES, MSI showcased engineering samples that may require further tuning before the anticipated first-half 2024 release.

Notably, the Claw features larger and more comfortable grips than Asus, without the bulky design of Lenovo. It closely resembles the ROG Ally in terms of shape, port placement, button layout, and a 7-inch 120Hz 1080p IPS screen. The user interface feels familiar but offers additional features like Xbox button mapping and anti-dead zone for joystick oversensitivity. With a 53Wh battery, the Claw outperforms the ROG Ally's 40Wh pack and aligns with Lenovo and the Steam Deck OLED. MSI promises to include a variable refresh rate, improving the overall gaming experience. However, the current performance of the Intel Core Ultra chip shows occasional stuttering and frame spikes, likely due to its default 24W-27W TDP. The fans appear relatively quiet, but it's hard to determine in a crowded room.

When compared to the Steam Deck, the Claw falls short in lower wattage scenarios. Turbo modes offer up to 35W on battery power and 40W while plugged in, providing better performance. Users can customize fan curves, key mapping, and program macros. Additionally, the Claw supports Wi-Fi 7, with MSI claiming a 4x speed improvement in lab testing. Notably, the device includes AI noise canceling and an allegedly AI-powered performance mode leveraging the Intel chip's NPU for dynamic adjustments. MSI expects two hours of battery life for demanding games, four hours for lighter use, and five or more hours for video playback. While these estimates are not as impressive as the Deck OLED, they represent a significant improvement compared to previous Windows handhelds.
