Conclusion

It device was truly awaited. After the huge success of the first Beats Pill, many people were simply waiting for an update. And here it is: the once-popular Beats Pill speaker sounds completely new. Practically everything has been updated in this model—from the exterior design to the internal components. New features have been added that weren't present in the previous version, and the acoustic performance, protection, and battery life have all improved. We're going to check if the anticipation was worth it! It’s been almost two months since the updated Beats Pill dropped, and we can already tell if it’ll be as popular as the last one and if it's going to be a hit this year.

A Brief Origin

The Beats Pill—mobile sound speaker, first introduced in 2012, marked a significant entry into the portable speaker market with its sleek design and strong sound quality. Over the years, the speaker has undergone several updates, including the launch of the Beats Pill+ in 2015, which offered improved audio performance and longer battery life. The Beats Pill has maintained its popularity, largely due to its portability and the brand's association with high-quality audio experiences, solidifying its impact in the industry.

Design

The Beats Pill Bluetooth speaker features a modern and practical design. It has a soft-touch silicone body with a metal speaker grille, displaying the Beats "b" logo. The top of the speaker includes several rubber physical buttons. There’s a handy removable strap that easily slips around your wrist.

The Beats Pill speaker is available in three colors: Matte Black, Champagne Gold, and Statement Red. I would love to see a white option, but perhaps there will be some exclusive updates in the future. The weight of the speaker is 680 grams.

Features

The Beats Pill speaker features advanced neodymium magnets that create a larger volume of air, boosting engine power by 28%. This improves sound output, making it more powerful and precise. Neodymium magnets outperform the ferrite ones found in most speakers, delivering greater power without increasing size.

The low-frequency driver in the Beats Pill can move 90% more air, and the radiators help reduce low-frequency distortion. Instead of dual tweeters, it has a redesigned tweeter for better stability and less distortion. The speaker's streamlined design, with a 20º tilt, enhances sound projection and minimizes reflections.

Like its predecessor, the Pill+, this bluetooth speaker can also function as a speakerphone for connected devices. Thanks to a special algorithm that reduces background noise and focuses on your voice, conversations will be clear for everyone. This is great for Zoom calls on your MacBook or other laptops, allowing you to avoid wearing AirPods all day while working from home.

The speaker supports voice assistants, so you can easily activate Siri or Google Assistant with the designated button. It also includes a USB-C port for lossless high-resolution audio playback through a wired connection. Plus, USB-C makes charging easy and allows you to charge other devices using the speaker. All of this connects via Bluetooth 5.3 on the Beats Pill speaker.

Water Resistance

The Beats Pill speaker offers solid water and dust protection with an IPX 67 rating. Its special design includes enhanced internal seals, ensuring that water and dirt can't get inside. This means you can take it to the beach, by the pool, or on a walk-in heavy rain without worry.

Compatibility

The Beats Pill speaker works with both iOS and Android devices. The Beats ensures stable connectivity for Apple and Android, allowing for instant one-touch pairing and automatic setup for all devices linked to an iCloud or Google account. It also supports Find My and Find My Device features. You can pair two speakers in Amplify mode for better sound in larger spaces or use Stereo mode to split the audio into left and right channels across different speakers.

Autonomy

The Beats Pill speaker offers impressive battery life, operating for a full 24 hours! The previous version only lasted 12 hours. Plus, the new speaker features fast charging, giving you an extra two hours of playtime with just 10 minutes of Fast Fuel charging. It comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging, which is included in the package (check out the charging options we looked at).

Control

The Beats Pill speaker features four buttons on the top: a power button, a central button, and volume up and down buttons. Each button has its own function, allowing you to control various features without needing your iPhone.

  • Press the power button to turn the speaker on or off.
  • A quick press shows the battery status.
  • Double press to activate Siri.
  • Triple press to change the charging direction when using USB-C.
  • Press and hold the power button while connecting via USB-C to activate the wired audio input.

What if Compare

The neodymium magnets in the Beats Pill speakers give them a sound quality that rivals the loud JBL Extreme 2, even though they're in different speaker categories. I see it as a direct competitor to the Bose SoundLink Revolve 2, which costs $60 more, is larger, and has different features. In this comparison, the Beats Pill has some clear advantages.

First, it has a higher IP67 rating, meaning it's better protected against dust and water, making it suitable for various environments. The USB-C charging port allows for faster and more convenient charging compared to the older Micro USB on the Bose. With a remarkable 24-hour battery life, the Beats Pill outlasts the Bose's 13 hours, so you can enjoy music all day and night. Plus, the newer Bluetooth 5.3 in the Beats Pill offers improved connectivity. These features make the Beats Pill a more advanced and reliable portable speaker choice.
