Yesterday, Apple held a big presentation of the updated iPhone and Apple Watch line. Previously we tried to follow the leaks to understand what awaits fans of Apple devices. Well, let's see if the leaks were true.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus smartphones, which come with various upgrades from the previous models.
The most anticipated change was that the new line finally switched to a USB-C connector instead of Lightning. This was facilitated by the decision of the European Union according to which, from 2024, the USB-C will become the only connector for the region. This is very convenient because with one cable you can now charge your MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and even Apple headphones.
Size of 6.1" for the iPhone 15 and 6.7" for the iPhone 15 Plus and price from $799 and from $899 for 128 GB.
The iPhone 15 will have a Super Retina OLED display with 1600 nits of brightness and a peak brightness of 2000 nits in sunlight, which is twice as bright as the iPhone 14.
Dynamic Island, previously exclusive to Pro models, is now available across the updated line. This feature offers a new way to view notifications and interact with applications.
The iPhone 15 will feature a 48-megapixel primary camera and a 12-megapixel secondary camera, which is a significant improvement from the previous iPhone 14 model that only had a 12-megapixel main camera. Additionally, the basic version of the iPhone 15 will have a 2x optical zoom. Apple has also enhanced the portrait and night modes, with portrait mode automatically activating without any additional settings.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are powered by the A16 BIONIC chip, which was introduced in last year's iPhone 14 Pro models. According to Apple, the iPhone 15's battery is larger and can last all day without needing to be recharged. The device also comes with a second-generation ultra-wideband chip that improves connectivity with other devices and enhances the accuracy of Find My searches. Additionally, the iPhone 15 supports MagSafe, an Emergency SOS satellite communication system that can be used when there is no cellular signal, and has a noise cancellation feature for voice calls.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
The cost of the New iPhone 15 Pro model with a size of 6.1" from $999 for 128 GB, iPhone 15 Pro Max with a size of 6.7" from $1199 for 256 GB
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have a new 6-core A17 Pro chip, the first 3nm processor. Apple claims that the A17 Pro is more energy efficient and 4 times faster in ray tracing than the previous chip. This chip will significantly improve the level of mobile gaming. The two Pro models also get a USB-C connector but with more additional features. Data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps will significantly speed up video and high-quality photos. Unlike the basic versions of smartphones, the iPhone 15 Pro body is made of titanium, which makes it the lightest phone from the iPhone Pro Series.
The mute/unmute switch on smartphones has been replaced by the Action button. This button can be customized to launch shortcuts, call up special features, turn on the flashlight, launch the camera, and perform other functions.
Speaking of the camera, the main camera can shoot in HEIF format with a resolution of 48 megapixels. It boasts twice the quality of portrait photography in low light conditions, thanks to focus and depth adjustment. Other cameras have 12 megapixels. You can also change the default lens and shoot with different focal lengths - 24 mm, 28 mm, and 35 mm - with the main camera. Additionally, the 5x optical zoom offered is the most Apple has ever provided, extending up to 120 mm focal length.
iPhone 15 Pro owners will be able to capture 4K60 ProRes 4K video on the device or directly onto an external drive via USB-C. In addition, the 15 Pro is capable of shooting "Spatial video" - the types of three-dimensional content seen in Vision Pro. As such, Apple envisions the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max as truly professional tools for creators and filmmakers worldwide.
Apple Watch 9 Series and Apple Watch Ultra 2
Apple Watch 9 Series
Also, Apple has presented the Series 9 version of its popular smartwatch, which boasts a new S9 chip based on the powerful Apple A15 Bionic. The GPU is now 30% faster, and the watch still offers an impressive 18 hours of battery life. Moreover, Apple claims that Siri will perform much faster on the Series 9.
The display of the Series 9 is also brighter than its predecessor, with twice the brightness level, ranging from 1 to 2000 nits. The watch is available in a pink color variant at once, in addition to the existing range of colors.
Apple has also added a new feature called Double Tap, which allows users to control the watch by double-tapping their fingers on the hand where the watch is located. This feature is exclusive to the Series 9.
Apple has made an effort to reduce its carbon footprint with the Series 9. The watch is made of recycled materials, and the company has recycled cobalt in the battery for the first time. Apple claims that the Series 9 has a 78% reduced carbon footprint, and the rest of the carbon footprint will be compensated by environmental initiatives.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
Apple has also presented the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which features a new display architecture that allows for a brightness level of up to 3000 nits. The watch has a new watch face called Modular Ultra and a Night mode that uses an ambient light sensor to automatically adjust the display mode. The Ultra 2 watch can last for 36 hours without recharging and 72 hours in low-power mode.
The Apple Watch Series 9 is priced at $399, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is priced at $799. Both models will be available from September 22.
Also during the presentation, Apple announced a commitment to phasing out the use of plastic by the end of next year. In addition, the company has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality for the entire business.
