The time has come! The scary Trick or Treat season is in its final stages—true geeks have already prepared for Halloween 2024 and know what they'll be doing, with whom, and what gifts they'll be giving. Those planning to host a party at home have already decorated their houses and rooms and prepared plenty of treats. But there are still people who put everything off until the last minute, and for them, we've prepared a list of 5 horror movies that you can confidently steal for your Halloween night.
I'll try to reveal with a bit of spoilers as little as possible.
1. Immaculate
Year: 2024
IMDb: 5.8
Rotten Tomatoes: 71%
"Immaculate" (2024) is a psychological horror film directed by Michael Mohan. Starring Sydney Sweeney as Cecilia, a sister whose faith deepens after she survives a plunge into a frozen lake, teetering on the brink of life and death. This key event shapes her journey as she is invited to live in a beautiful yet sinister monastery in Italy. There, she meets the character Alvaro Morte, Father Salom Tedeski, and uncovers disturbing secrets hidden within the monastery's walls. Soon, the girl discovers she is pregnant—despite never having been with a man.
The film masterfully explores themes of faith and fear, and Sydney Sweeney's performance proves she can act beyond shows like Euphoria. Special authors' respect for the film's creators for the soundtrack, especially the Ukrainian "Shchedryk" in its original version (I mean "Carol of the Bells").

2. Exhuma
Year: 2024
IMDb: 6.9
Rotten Tomatoes: 95%
I don't usually pay much attention to Korean films, unlike my older daughter. So when I suggested watching a "horror from Korea," she immediately agreed. The South Korean film "Exhuma" (2024) originally "Pamyo" is a gripping supernatural horror directed by Chang Jae-hyun. It features a star-studded Korean cast, including Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, and Yoo Hae-jin. The story delves into mystery and occultism, exploring the troubling consequences of exhuming a grave. During the excavation, a worker accidentally does something considered a bad omen, leading to the release of a vengeful spirit. Set against a remote backdrop, the narrative unfolds with supernatural elements that challenge the characters as they face the dark forces unleashed by their actions.
The film's atmospheric tension and cultural depth distinguish it from other horror movies, making it one of the highest-grossing horror films after Train to Busan.

3. Longlegs
Year: 2024
IMDb: 6.7
Rotten Tomatoes: 86%
“Longlegs” (2024) is a chilling horror film directed by Osgood Perkins. It tells the story of a mysterious creature that terrorizes a secluded rural community. Set in the 1990s, a murder investigation hits a wall. They call in young FBI agent Lee Harker (played by Maika Monroe), who's got some serious intuition. This criminal has been on the loose for years, leaving behind mysterious messages at the crime scenes that need cracking to prevent the next murder. Lee has to dive into the twisted world of the serial killer. Her background in criminal investigations is key as she teams up with a fantastic group of heroes to take on the dark figure known as Longlegs, played (surprisingly) by Nicolas Cage.
The film spins a story packed with atmospheric tension, which is perfect for a horror movie, but honestly, I didn’t look away during the "scary" scenes. I have to say, that I don't usually do this for years, but the movie's marketing really worked, and I'm not the only one thinking "Longlegs" is a great pick for a Halloween party in 2024.

5. The Substance
Year: 2024
IMDb: 7.6
Rotten Tomatoes: 91%
I’ll be honest, I saved this one for Halloween night because I trusted the critics' reviews about this movie, the trailer, and the plot.
"Substance" (2024) is a gripping sci-fi body horror movie directed by Coralie Fargeat, featuring Demi Moore, who looks to give an exciting performance based on the trailer. Set in a dystopian future, the story follows Elizabeth Sparkle, a morning show host, who decides to take part in the "Substance" project. Things get intense when a mysterious liquid is introduced, and a young beauty named Sue shows up. As tensions rise, reality starts to blur, and the characters are left fighting for their survival and understanding.
I can't wait this Halloween to see this masterpiece about human nature and the mystery.
